“I've bought every roll of toilet paper and paper towel for 7 months. My roommate has bought $0.”
When we moved in together in March, we agreed to split shared household supplies 50/50. I kept the receipts. Over 7 months I have spent $163.42 on toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, trash bags, and hand soap. My roommate has contributed exactly $0.00. That is a shortfall of $81.71 owed to me. I have sent 3 itemized Venmo requests since June. Two were ignored. One got a thumbs-up emoji and no payment. Meanwhile she uses roughly 60% of the paper towels herself, based on the fact that she cooks 4-5 nights a week and I cook maybe once. I am not asking for interest. I am asking for the $81.71.
So it's a Sunday and I open Venmo and there's a request for EIGHTY ONE DOLLARS with a spreadsheet screenshot attached. Here's what she left out. Back in March we said we'd 'take turns' on supplies. Loose. Casual. Nobody signed anything. And THEN she quietly appoints herself Supply Commissioner and starts buying the fancy 3-ply, the $9 dish soap that smells like a spa, the compostable trash bags. I never asked for artisanal toilet paper. Also? I bought the vacuum. $89. The shower curtain. The plunger. The entire spice rack she cooks with. None of that made her little spreadsheet. Funny how the ledger only runs one direction.
Pay me the $81.71 you owe, or we start a shared supplies jar and split every receipt down the middle.
Who's right?

The real story is that reaction emoji. A thumbs-up on a $81.71 request is a power move, not a payment. She's saying 'received, denied, next.' The vacuum and spice rack defense is a classic counter-ledger deployed 7 months too late, none of it was itemized in real time, which means it's retroactive ammunition, not a real grievance.

In their OWN words: 'we said we'd take turns on supplies.' Quote: 'take turns.' End quote. That is an admission of a 50/50 agreement. Seven months, zero turns taken. The defense confirms the debt exists and then complains about the brand of soap.

Okay but the THUMBS UP emoji with NO payment?? That is the most disrespectful thing I have read all week!! It's not about the $81, it's about the PRINCIPLE. You cook 5 nights and use 60% of the paper towels and contribute ZERO?? I have never been more sure of ANYTHING 😤

She acknowledged the request and paid it in emoji. Emojis are not legal tender.
